Options For A Tooth Replacement

The most desirable tooth replacement is the Dental Implant. A permanent solution lasting many years they do the best job in restoring your smile and bite to its natural state. The next option is a bridge. There are several variations of the bridge depending on the location of the tooth replacement. You can also chose a type of denture. The bridge is affixed to your adjoining teeth making is semi-permanent. A denture will be removable.

Dental Implants

The best alternative today for a tooth replacement, when you are finished with the dental implant process you cannot tell the difference from the natural tooth you lost. The implant process will take several visits and one might consider it minor oral surgery. At first an impression type mold will be made of your teeth. This will then be sent off to a dental lab. Drs. Ritter or Ramsey will then surgical cut your gum and install a titanium post in the jawbone. Usually the healing process may take up to several months as the bone literally grows around that post. The gums will be tender after the surgery for a few days. Once you have healed and the site is healthy a dental lab will have made a crown, an artificial tooth, from the impression made initially. You and either Dr. Ritter or Dr. Ramsey have gone through the color choices so the porcelain enamel crown will perfectly match your natural teeth. The crown is affixed to the titanium post and just like that you have a tooth replacement that conceivable can last a lifetime with proper oral hygiene. Some of the advantages of this solution is that fact that it is the implant looks totally natural. They can last a lifetime. They can actually help with jawbone shrinkage and the adjacent teeth are not involved. Several disadvantages are the higher cost, the fact that surgery is involved and implants are just not for everyone.

Fixed Bridges

A fixed bridge is the next possible option to gain some longevity for your tooth replacement. A bridge as we know it crosses a span with supporting structures on each side called abutments. This principle is the same for a fixed dental bridge. The first step is to have an impression made of your teeth. This goes to the dental lab for artificial tooth or teeth to be made. These are often called pontics, caps or crowns and are made of a porcelain enamel. Then Drs. Ritter or Ramsey will prepare the abutment teeth by making them slightly smaller. The final product is a crown that is cemented over the two abutment teeth with the artificial tooth or teeth fixed to the crowns. This solution is more economical than an implant and can give you 10-12 years before it may need to be replaced. The disadvantage is the prep work that is necessary on the two good natural abutment teeth. The tooth replacement will also leave you will a very pleasant smile.

Removable Bridges Or Dentures

This tooth replacement solution leaves your abutment teeth intact and does not require crowns. Instead, the artificial tooth or teeth will be secured or anchored to the two abutment teeth with a wire like hooking device. The anchoring wire can be cemented to your abutment teeth on the back side so the anchoring device cannot be visible with your smile. A denture introduces a gum colored acrylic base that the artificial tooth or teeth are affixed to. The denture will also need a wire type device to anchor it to neighboring teeth. The denture should also be removed every evening to allow the gums to remain healthy.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DENTISTRY SINCE 1994

Traditionally, hours of hand labor in a dental laboratory are invested in these precise products. With the adoption of more technology into dentistry, digital imaging continues to grow in importance. Most restorations begin with a mold of your mouth that involves messy impression materials. With the Itero Digital Scanner, you can say goodbye to the mess. Itero eliminates this step, replacing it with simple digital images captured with a handheld wand. The images quickly appear on a computer monitor as 3-D models of your teeth.

Expert Tooth Restoration Using Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain dental crowns are used to restore dental implants, to secure dental bridges, restore and help repair broken or damaged teeth. Dental crowns can be performed in one visit. The goal with dental crowns is to create a natural looking smile. These types of crowns can add the strength and durability to any tooth with any needed repair. Aesthetically, dental crowns are used to cover a discolored tooth and even narrow the gaps between largely separated teeth.
