Full or Partial Dentures To Replace Missing Teeth

Technology has had quite a positive impact on dentistry. With computer aided design and custom laboratories anything seems to be possible today. Technology has also influenced dentures. It’s hard to believe but dentures have been around since 700 BC and really saw a spike in usage with the introduction of sugar into our diets in the mid-1800s. In fact, a very famous president, George Washington, wore dentures made from hippopotamus ivory, human teeth and also included those from both horse and donkey. So you can see they have a long history of successful usage.

The Need For Dentures

People lose teeth. As adults we have 32 teeth in our mouth and you may have lost some, or all, due to an unfortunate accident, tooth decay or even gum disease. Drs. Ritter and Ramsey can initiate the process with a consultation, addressing your concerns, your interests and your goals. You will discuss your options with a replacement system. There are actually four elements that will contribute to your plan of action. The aesthetics of the set of proposed dentures and the impact they will have on rebuilding your smile. There is the function of the replacement in chewing effectively, the comfort in having dentures that fit your mouth and finally the expected longevity of the replacements. Then, depending on your situation, you will look at either full dentures or partials. If teeth are extracted you will not receive your appliance immediately. Your gums will need to heal and be healthy to make your new appliance be comfortable and effective. Drs. Ritter and Ramsey will help you through this period of transition in moving forward.

Partial Dentures

As the name implies, this is the avenue to take if you have lost one, several or even more teeth. This is an economical solution to replace missing teeth, fill in spaces, and improve biting, chewing and of course, your smile. A partial denture will keep your remaining natural teeth from shifting and lowering the risk of losing those teeth in the future. Prosthetic teeth, as many as you need to fill the gap, will be affixed to a gum-colored acrylic base. The partial will have an unobtrusive clasp that will attach to your healthy teeth to anchor the partial in place. Sometimes an implant may be suggested to increase the appliance support while still keeping it a removable partial.

Full Dentures

You have found yourself with no teeth on either your upper jaw, bottom or even both. Full dentures are a very economical and very efficient way to restore both the function of your teeth and the aesthetics of a healthy smile. The offices of Ritter and Ramsey will work with a professional lab in creating a gum-colored acrylic base that sits directly and comfortably on you existing gums. This base will have some natural suction or it can be adhered with an over the counter adhesive. An upper might cover some of the roof of your mouth were a lower will look like a horseshoe. The prosthetic teeth, made of porcelain, ceramic or acrylic, are then built into that base giving you the appearance of natural teeth. At this time you can chose to replace your original teeth and restore your original smile or you can chose to make slight improvements and create a slightly better smile. Drs. Ritter and Ramsey can and will help you make these decisions. With the technological improvements in dentistry an implant again may be suggested to be placed in the jaw and connected under the base of the denture to improve stability. The fixture will still be removable at any time.

Denture Benefits

Replacing any missing teeth is important. Following a rule of form and function, there is the self- esteem and self confidence that is dramatically influenced with a restored healthy smile through your social and professional daily interactions. There is the function of your oral health maintaining the alignment of your bite and preventing any remaining healthy teeth from shifting. Dentures, with proper care, can last up to seven to ten years. Most importantly you’ll want to see if your natural gums are changing which will affect the fit of your appliance over time. It is also wise to remove your appliance at night giving your natural gums a chance to rest, recover and receive some exposure to the benefits naturally present with your saliva. Of course, you’ll want to clean your dentures daily as if they were your natural teeth. Cleaning them before putting them back in your mouth is the easiest and best route to take for good care. Simply brushing them like natural teeth will remove food deposits and plaque. Don’t drop them, they are delicate. Also don’t let them dry out. They will soak overnight in solution. Drs. Ritter and Ramsey understand and appreciate how unique you, your oral hygiene, and your smile are. They work with skilled technicians to create a solution that is comfortable, practical and aesthically pleasing. They will walk you through your options and suggest the best avenue for you to proceed with achieving your goals with either your new partial or full set of dentures. Schedule your consultation visit today and get back that smile. Smile with confidence! Eat well, speak clearly and laugh often. Most importantly, enjoy life!

Dental Implants As An Option

The benefits of introducing an implant with your new dentures are several. First and foremost, there is the improvement of a strong and secure fit. An implant will eliminate any slippage. This would be advantageous for either full or partials. If it is your first time with this solution it also allows for a smaller acrylic base reducing the final size of the appliance making it easier to wear. By having the appliance secure and staying in place you don’t have to worry about slippage when you are eating, speaking or even laughing. It dramatically helps control and minimize any discomfort that may come from the appliance sliding or moving. Dental implants actually promote strengthening of the bone beneath your teeth and gums. With implants added the dentures are is still removable.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DENTISTRY SINCE 1994

Traditionally, hours of hand labor in a dental laboratory are invested in these precise products. With the adoption of more technology into dentistry, digital imaging continues to grow in importance. Most restorations begin with a mold of your mouth that involves messy impression materials. With the Itero Digital Scanner, you can say goodbye to the mess. Itero eliminates this step, replacing it with simple digital images captured with a handheld wand. The images quickly appear on a computer monitor as 3-D models of your teeth.

Expert Tooth Restoration Using Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain dental crowns are used to restore dental implants, to secure dental bridges, restore and help repair broken or damaged teeth. Dental crowns can be performed in one visit. The goal with dental crowns is to create a natural looking smile. These types of crowns can add the strength and durability to any tooth with any needed repair. Aesthetically, dental crowns are used to cover a discolored tooth and even narrow the gaps between largely separated teeth.

The Finest Porcelain Veneers for a New Smile

At Ritter & Ramsey, watching patients discover a brilliant new smile is the highlight of our days. Porcelain veneers can transform a smile dramatically. A beautiful new set of porcelain veneers can correct chips, stains, and even deeply discolored teeth. But they can also alter the length and size of teeth, or help teeth that seem rotated appear straight. While it sounds dramatic, only the stunning visual outcome is surprising. Porcelain veneers provide a highly conservative approach to aesthetic smile makeovers.
