The All-On-Four Dental Implant Procedure

Patients who are missing the majority of their teeth may feel their options are limited in tooth replacement. In the past, patients who’ve lost the majority of their teeth resorted to the traditional dentures to revamp their aging smile. However, there are many disadvantages of dentures that deal with the functionality and the aesthetics of the smile as a whole. The All-on- Four dental implant procedure offers a revolutionary treatment process that provides permanent teeth replacement for full jaw arches. If the top or bottom arch of your smile can use a complete overhaul without the use of dentures, All-on-Four can be the route for you.

More About The All-On-Four Process

The All-on- Four process typically can be consolidated to one day, commonly advertised as the “smile in a day” treatment. This procedure consists of the dental professional ensuring no teeth are left on the appropriate arch. If an extraction is needed, it can usually be done on the same day. The dentist will then surgically insert four dental implants into the necessary jawbone to provide the foundation needed. Specialized abutments are added to the implants. The fixed dental bridge will be fitted over the abutments and secured with specialized screws.

The procedure will usually be done only if the patient is under some form of sedation or anesthetic. The total time for the procedure will typically last 2-3 hours depending on if extractions are needed. A consultation should be had before the procedure to ensure the patient is aware of every step involved in the procedure.

Candidates For All-On-Four

Many patients can be candidates for the All-on- Four dental implant procedure. Patients who are already wearing dentures and are interested in upgrading their smiles are great candidates. If you are someone who is missing six teeth or more, you can talk to your dentist about how you can be a candidate as well. If a patient has an incredibly fragile jawbone, then perhaps the All-on- Four dental implant procedure may not be right for you. While the dental implant count is minimal, you will still need a great amount of strength in the jawbone to withstand the pressure of the implant insertion. However, if you are looking to completely transform the aesthetics of your teeth to give you a stunning new smile (in one short appointment), All-on-Four can be the right option for you.

All-On-Four Vs. Removable Dentures

A removable denture is a traditional route for replacing the look of missing teeth. The acrylic base is the foundation for the fabricated teeth. This restoration sits loosely on the patient's gums with no secured adjustments to the jawbone. When a jawbone loses its bite pressure as teeth fall out, the jawbone starts to deteriorate. When a denture is fitted and tailored to each person’s jawbone, over-time, the jawbone will shrink because of this deterioration and the denture will start to slip easily and cause trouble during activities such as talking or chewing. It can also cause extreme soreness as the denture will start to shift along the jawbone.

Because of the above points, patients will need to adjust their dentures every few years in order to ensure the fit of their dentures are accurate. If the patient wears dentures long enough, it will quickly deteriorate the jawbone below which can make adjusting dentures over the years harder.

The only way to stop this form of deterioration in the jaw bone is by replacing and mimicking the tooth roots in the jawbone. Dental implants are the only solution for replacing tooth roots in the dental cosmetic industry. There are a few ways dental implants can be used to attach dentures securely. The ball and O-ring attachment utilize two or three dental implants at once that have abutments attached to the top. The abutments have a special ring like shape that allows the dentures to snap into place. While this may seem like a great compromise, it is still a removable form of a denture which causes instability and will need replacement over time.

The All-on- Four dental implant procedure utilizes four dental implants per arch that are covered with a specialized abutment piece. Then, a custom- made fixed bridge that boasts fabricated teeth on an acrylic base is fixated onto the jaw arch. This piece boasts holes along the bridge to allow the specialized abutments to pass through. The dental professional will place the fixed bridge over these abutments and use specific inserts to screw the bridge into place. This option is a permanent form of tooth
replacement that doesn’t require the patient to remove the “denture” for cleaning or any other purposes. This is an incredibly secure and stable treatment option for replacing a full arch of teeth. The All-on- Four implant procedure reduces the soreness, discomfort, instability and more that comes along with using traditional dentures.

All-On-Four Vs. Traditional Implants

A dental implant based treatment is a time consuming, painful and a tedious procedure. While dental implants provide the best form of stability, strength, and function for replacement teeth, it can be tough to undergo a rough procedure for some patients. The fixed implant bridge uses a total of 8-12 dental implants per arch. A bridge of only dental crowns is fixated onto the jawbone over the abutment pieces. This option is by far the better option for the look and feel of natural teeth. However, this procedure can be nearly 3x more expensive than the All-on- Four dental implant procedure as the steps need to be broken down into separate procedures.

Some patients cannot undergo such a tedious procedure as they do not have the allotted bone strength needed to withstand the pressure of 12 dental implants per arch. This is the reason why many patients are opting for the All-on- Four implant procedure as it requires fewer steps, less cost, but still, boast a great long lasting quality smile. It provides the patient with a long-term solution and can reduce the process of bone deterioration to help give the patient a younger looking smile for longer!

Talk to your dentist about the options that may be right for you. The All-on- Four dental implant procedure is a great option for those looking for a full function transformation.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DENTISTRY SINCE 1994

Traditionally, hours of hand labor in a dental laboratory are invested in these precise products. With the adoption of more technology into dentistry, digital imaging continues to grow in importance. Most restorations begin with a mold of your mouth that involves messy impression materials. With the Itero Digital Scanner, you can say goodbye to the mess. Itero eliminates this step, replacing it with simple digital images captured with a handheld wand. The images quickly appear on a computer monitor as 3-D models of your teeth.

Expert Tooth Restoration Using Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain dental crowns are used to restore dental implants, to secure dental bridges, restore and help repair broken or damaged teeth. Dental crowns can be performed in one visit. The goal with dental crowns is to create a natural looking smile. These types of crowns can add the strength and durability to any tooth with any needed repair. Aesthetically, dental crowns are used to cover a discolored tooth and even narrow the gaps between largely separated teeth.

The Finest Porcelain Veneers for a New Smile

At Ritter & Ramsey, watching patients discover a brilliant new smile is the highlight of our days. Porcelain veneers can transform a smile dramatically. A beautiful new set of porcelain veneers can correct chips, stains, and even deeply discolored teeth. But they can also alter the length and size of teeth, or help teeth that seem rotated appear straight. While it sounds dramatic, only the stunning visual outcome is surprising. Porcelain veneers provide a highly conservative approach to aesthetic smile makeovers.
