Oral Surgery

Oral surgery has a simple definition; basically it’s any kind of surgical procedure that needs to take place in your mouth. The procedures are wide in scope and most likely will involve some level of anesthesia. Depending on the condition it could involve different branches of dentistry and different specialists, or it could be a procedure done by Doctors Ritter and Ramsey. In any case, an extensive consultation with Drs. Ritter or Ramsey will be conducted prior to any oral surgery procedure so you know the reason why, that you understand the oral surgery procedure itself and the expected outcome for both parties.

Common Reasons For Oral Surgery

Some of the more common reasons for oral surgery that Drs. Ritter and Ramsey both perform and consult on start with impacted wisdom teeth. A procedure that often happens between the ages of 17 and 25. The decision is to remove the third molar after it is decided together that your oral cavity is too small to accommodate these teeth or if there is other potential health risks resulting from not extraction the impacted teeth. The extraction involves the cutting of the gums to reach the teeth and most often is done under sedation. Another common piece of oral surgery is the insertion of dental implants. This is when you have either lost a tooth via an accident or have had to have one removed. If necessary, there may be some bone grafting to prepare the jaw to begin. After that has healed a titanium post is surgically positioned in your jawbone. Again, once healed, an implant is placed on that post or abutment. This is a very permanent fix versus having a form of removable denture or a bridge which needs to be anchored to the neighboring teeth. In essence a dental implant could require oral surgery twice. The oral surgery process is outpatient and may take several months to let each step heal properly before advancing. Some offices may consider a root canal oral surgery. It depends on the dentist, the tooth and the patient. A root canal requires a local anesthetic which allows the dentist to enter the tooth to remove the infected pulp at it center. Once the soft tissue is removed the remaining chamber and canal are cleaned and then filled with a rubber like material. The tooth is then sealed with a filling and then a crown should be applied over the tooth to ensure some longevity to the natural tooth that no longer has nutrients being delivered to it.

Other Reasons For Oral Surgery

Oral surgery may be necessary to make a set of dentures fit more properly or if you have unequal jaw growth and it has been decided to correct that. You may be suffering from headaches due to improper jaw alignment that can be corrected via oral surgery. Oral surgery may be the avenue to take to correct facial infections if you have pain and swelling in the face, neck or jaws. Oral surgery treatment can cut into the infected area and drain and treat the infection. Oral surgery is often necessary to address facial injury repair, such as a fractured jaw or broken facial bones after an unfortunate accident or just a malformation of the midface. A cleft lip or a cleft palate can now be repaired with oral surgery. A cleft lip and a cleft palate is the result of when portions of the mouth and nasal cavity do not grow together properly. Oral surgery can correct these problems with proper treatment and several surgical procedures. TMJ is when the small joint in front of the ear where the skull and lower jaw meet just doesn’t function properly and created headaches and facial pain. Oral surgery on the joint is an option to correct this problem. A sinus lift is a procedure involving bone grafting with the upper jaw, often related to creating a space for an upper implant. Drs. Ritter and Ramsey have seen all of these symptoms and problems and have played various roles in the successful outcomes for their patients.

Potential Pain And The Anxiety

Drs. Ritter and Ramsey understand the problems that come into their office and understand the procedures necessary to deliver the results to keep your mouth and your oral hygiene healthy. Your mouth is sensitive and most likely will be tender after some oral surgery procedures. Most cases over the counter medication will relieve your discomfort. Anxiety is something many patients share when you simply mention a dental visit. So when you introduce a potential oral surgery procedure the anxiety can or will ramp up. Drs. Ritter and Ramsey exercise a compassionate philosophy in their approach, always with your best interests in mind. They will again think and plan the entire procedure through, which will include the necessary protocol for you to heal properly. If it is a tooth extraction leaving an open wound that needs to close, or a root canal, or an implant post, they will address each scenario with you as a unique individual.

Cost Ranges Of Different Procedures

It’s tough to determine oral surgery costs because of the multiple variables. When it gets into unique problems which were mentioned earlier the procedure will be unique to you and your mouth, teeth, jaw and sinus structure. Drs. Ritter and Ramsey will not embark on any part of the corrective oral surgery procedure without you knowing the benefits and the costs. Their offices will also help you with your insurance coverage. If your dental insurance does not cover oral surgery they will help you find other means to offset the expenses that are necessary to keep you healthy. They are always thinking of the best outcome for you.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DENTISTRY SINCE 1994

Traditionally, hours of hand labor in a dental laboratory are invested in these precise products. With the adoption of more technology into dentistry, digital imaging continues to grow in importance. Most restorations begin with a mold of your mouth that involves messy impression materials. With the Itero Digital Scanner, you can say goodbye to the mess. Itero eliminates this step, replacing it with simple digital images captured with a handheld wand. The images quickly appear on a computer monitor as 3-D models of your teeth.

Expert Tooth Restoration Using Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain dental crowns are used to restore dental implants, to secure dental bridges, restore and help repair broken or damaged teeth. Dental crowns can be performed in one visit. The goal with dental crowns is to create a natural looking smile. These types of crowns can add the strength and durability to any tooth with any needed repair. Aesthetically, dental crowns are used to cover a discolored tooth and even narrow the gaps between largely separated teeth.

The Finest Porcelain Veneers for a New Smile

At Ritter & Ramsey, watching patients discover a brilliant new smile is the highlight of our days. Porcelain veneers can transform a smile dramatically. A beautiful new set of porcelain veneers can correct chips, stains, and even deeply discolored teeth. But they can also alter the length and size of teeth, or help teeth that seem rotated appear straight. While it sounds dramatic, only the stunning visual outcome is surprising. Porcelain veneers provide a highly conservative approach to aesthetic smile makeovers.
