What Are The Steps in Full Mouth Reconstruction?
Ritter and Ramsey General and Cosmetic Dentistry service Jupiter, Palm Beach Gardens, and all of Palm Beach County, Florida.
If you believe you are a candidate for full mouth reconstruction, your first step is to schedule a consultation appointment with your dentist specifically to discuss what you are wanting from your smile so that they are able to determine if you are indeed a candidate for full mouth reconstruction. After your consultation, your dentist will develop a treatment plan for you and have you come back for a separate appointment specifically to review your treatment plan and make any amendments necessary. Once you understand and have agreed to your treatment plan, your dentist can begin scheduling you for treatment.
Before beginning treatment for full mouth reconstruction, your Dentist will take the following steps to make sure you receive the best care possible and the exact results you are looking for.
Comprehensive Oral Evaluation
Your dentist will determine what treatments will be necessary for you by completing an extensive oral examination. They will examine each tooth and the surrounding gum tissue. If your dentist determines that you have periodontal disease or bone deterioration, they will refer you to a periodontist or oral surgeon for treatment. If you have any trouble with jaw, neck, or headaches, your doctor will examine you for temporomandibular joint problems.
This examination will also include x-rays, intra-oral photos, photos of your smile and facial structure, and impressions of the upper and lower arches.
Records and Models
The impressions that your doctor takes will be used to create models for the dental lab to use as a guide when creating a wax up. Your dentist will use the wax up as a preview of your end results.
Specialists
If your treatment plan is going to require the specialized treatment of another doctor, your dentist will give you a referral for a consultation so that you are able to meet with your specialist and understand their portion of treatment. Specialists will have their own treatment plan and own fees. The specialist and your dentist will work in tandem to make sure that your planned treatment is what is best for you.
Developing Your Treatment Plan
After you have had the consultation with your dentist and any needed specialists, your dentist will create your treatment plan for their office. If you have extensive treatment to be completed, your doctors may present your treatment plans in phases. Each phase will lay out the fees and healing time involved.
Oral Surgery and Orthodontia
Some patients may require orthodontic treatment before any restorations can be completed. Some dentists offer clear aligner therapy options and may be able to complete your entire treatment plan in house. If they do not offer such treatment, they will refer you to an orthodontist to complete that phase of your full mouth reconstruction.
If you require treatment that involves extractions of teeth, bone or gum grafting, a sinus lift, or implant placement, these surgeries will need to be completed and you will have to be fully healed and recovered before your dentist can begin their portion of your treatment.
