Braces can correct crooked and crowded teeth. Braces can also correct an under bite, an overbite, and any incorrect jaw positioning. You may have a disorder with your jaw joints that will lead to issues later. Addressing these issues will help with the potential of tooth decay, with unnecessary headaches, earaches, possible gum disease and issues with your speech and chewing and biting as you move onward.
Different Types Of Braces
The tradition method of braces are the Metal variety. There are metal bands and brackets that are cemented to the teeth and then metal wires that are fastened to the brackets. As of late the metal reacts to your body temperature and can actually move teeth faster. This is a common method yet today due to affordability resulting in the smallest investment. The next method is that of ceramic. Much like metal they can be clear in color to match your teeth and are therefore less obvious. They are more expensive but deliver the same results as metal. The negative of ceramic is that of improper care. If not cared for properly they can discolor therefore losing their benefit. The third method is the Lingual braces. These are metal braces put on the inside of your teeth. That is the wire is on the inside. You still need the bands and brackets on your teeth. This route can be uncomfortable with the wire next to your tongue, are more expensive and may not appropriate for all situations. The latest introduction to the braces family is the Invisalign. Often called the clear braces, they are the least intrusive but most costly option of the four. This method consists of somewhere between 18 to 30 plastic aligners that are replaced every two weeks to continue to move the teeth. Designed by a computer assisted design program, these allow you to eat and drink whatever you wish and they are nearly invisible if you might be older and don’t care to have them visible when you smile. Again, they are the most expensive alternative and not necessarily appropriate for a severe case of correction.

An Ideal Age And How Long
First of all, you can wear them at any age. Ideally, a dentist and an orthodontist will identify the issues developing in your mouth as early as the age of 10 to 15. Early teens. The head and mouth are still growing at this time and it is easier to move the teeth at this time. If your child has had a consultation and the suggestion has been made you need to make sure the child is on board with the process. Due to the appearance of braces they may find it somewhat traumatic. Again, clarification, you can wear them at any time in your life if you wish to correct possible headaches and inevitable improve your smile. More adults now than ever are wearing braces because they see that the outcome is worth it. The length of wearing the braces depends of course on your own situation and the type of treatment plan you have worked out with your dentist. As the problems become more complicated, the spacing or bite pattern is a bigger issue, and your age, the duration can vary. Generally speaking, the length of time necessary to wear braces can range from 12 to 30 months. Possibly a bit longer if you are older or have more correction to tend to. Then after they are removed you will be wearing a retainer for a while to keep those teeth in their new positions. The retainer allows the tissue around the teeth to adjust and find their new positioning as well. Sometimes a permanent retainer may be suggested so your bite will not return to where it was.
Proper Care
Stop and think about it for a minute. Or, shoot a picture of your mouth and blow it up on your computer. Just look at all the tiny spaces that can so easily trap food particles which will quickly develop into plaque. All you need to do is patiently brush twice a day, brush well with a soft bristled toothbrush and do your best to floss with a threader that your dentist will suggest or provide. You may be needing to spend about three times the normal time cleaning your teeth but it is all worth it. This might be a good time to consider an electric toothbrush. Rinsing your mouth on a regular basis is advantageous to remove debris as well. Also, do not miss your regular cleaning with your hygienist.
The Outcome
It’s all about Form and Function. When you have your teeth corrected they will be easier to clean. Easier to clean means they are healthier. You might have less plaque and tartar buildup if you maintain good brushing and flossing techniques. Something that hasn’t been mentioned is the health of your gums. Playing an important but an overlooked role in your oral hygiene are your gums. No plaque, no gum disease. To take the benefits further you can have a proper bite pattern, you can reduce or eliminate any headaches that might have come from a bad bite pattern, and finally, the best benefit is you just might not have to see your dentist as often. Finally, nice straight, clean teeth that you are proud of showing off will allow you to naturally smile more often. A nice smile will actually improve your self-esteem and your self-confidence playing a role in your everyday life. Let the Ritter and Ramsey team improve your life today.
ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY DENTISTRY SINCE 1994
Traditionally, hours of hand labor in a dental laboratory are invested in these precise products. With the adoption of more technology into dentistry, digital imaging continues to grow in importance. Most restorations begin with a mold of your mouth that involves messy impression materials. With the Itero Digital Scanner, you can say goodbye to the mess. Itero eliminates this step, replacing it with simple digital images captured with a handheld wand. The images quickly appear on a computer monitor as 3-D models of your teeth.
Expert Tooth Restoration Using Porcelain Crowns
Porcelain dental crowns are used to restore dental implants, to secure dental bridges, restore and help repair broken or damaged teeth. Dental crowns can be performed in one visit. The goal with dental crowns is to create a natural looking smile. These types of crowns can add the strength and durability to any tooth with any needed repair. Aesthetically, dental crowns are used to cover a discolored tooth and even narrow the gaps between largely separated teeth.
