Westgate is basically a suburban neighborhood found in West Palm Beach, Florida but not part of the city when it comes to a census count. The population is between 8,000 and 10,000 residents. The area is an unincorporated census-designated place in Palm Beach County. Let’s first define what that means. Census-designation means that there is a concentration of population but it is not considered a municipality. There is no local government for this population. Their services such as fire, police and emergency rescue might be provided by either West Palm Beach or the county of Palm Beach or shared by both entities. Sometimes in southern Florida areas can be designated as such to preserve the rural aesthetic climate they present such as larger estate type lots. Or the designation keeps them from being
annexed into a neighboring city. Each situation is different.

The community is primarily made up of small to medium size apartment complexes and some single family homes. Most of the residential population are rentals which leads us to some interesting demographic numbers of the neighborhood. A large portion of the residents are single. The working population dominate the service industries, with men in the construction industry and the women in the health care profession. The neighborhood also has cultural diversity. Most residents will identify with a Haitian ancestry, Cuban, as well as Mexican, South American and Puerto Rican.

Westgate is a sliver of property sitting right above Palm Beach International Airport. The residents have easy access to anywhere in the West Palm Beach community via Interstate 95, Highway 704 or Belvedere Road. It is also only about two miles to the beaches on the Atlantic. Westgate doesn’t have the business environment to tout such as shopping, restaurants or night life venues. It draws all of that energy from West Palm Beach. You can find over 100 specialty shops in City Place as well as national chains and numerous restaurants. There are museums scattered throughout the community as well as a multitude of golf course. The beaches are impeccable for family entertainment. You can snorkel or scuba dive, go deep sea fishing or work the Intercoastal waterways for freshwater fish. If you tire of this spectacular oasis you can venture out into the rest of Palm Beach County. With 47 miles of Atlantic coast line you can find anything and everything your family may be asking for. Entertainment centers, water parks, natural reserves featuring natural wildlife, hiking and biking in all types of environments. Palm Beach County is a winter wonderland and a tourist destination.
