About Tequesta, FL

Tequesta, Florida is located in Palm Beach County. The history of the area dates back long before the Spanish explored the region, when local Seminole tribes called the area home. The original name for the region was Jobe, which came from the name of Seminole village that was located nearby. The Spanish pronunciation was similar to the name of the mythological god, Jupiter, which eventually became the name of the city that would develop there.

Tequesta was a planned community built in the 1950’s, located on the north side of Jupiter. The community was planned on the Tequesta Country Club, which was named after a local Native American tribe in the area. In 1957, the village was incorporated. Its history has been intricately connected to Jupiter’s because of its proximity.

Today

The population of Tequesta is around 6,000 people. Residents in the community benefit from being apart of the Miami South Florida Metropolitan area. The community has remained small as was planned.

South Florida is home to countless activities and attractions that are sure to please everyone in the family. Although Tequesta is primarily a residential community, its proximity to Jupiter and Palm Beach County means that residents and visitors never run out of activities.

Beachgoers enjoy the warm waters brought by the nearby Gulf Stream. The water is warm year round and is perfect for swimming. Beachgoers also enjoy various water sports such as boating, kayaking, jet skis, parasailing, snorkeling, and drift diving on the Gulf Stream.

The region is also known for golf. Within the area of Jupiter and Palm Beach County there are hundreds of golf courses that range from private to public and accommodate all skill levels. Some of the most well known courses in the area of Jupiter are Abacoa Golf Club, Indian Creek Golf Club, Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club, and Cypress Links Golf Club. People come from all over the country to enjoy South Florida’s golf scene.

There are also several wildlife sanctuaries and nature reserves in the area that will satisfy nature enthusiasts and families looking to spend time outdoors. One of the most famous spots is the Lion Country Safari. When visiting here you can drive around the park while the animals roam around your vehicle. It truly is a one of a kind experience. In addition to this there are several other parks and reserves. Some of the most well known are Jonathan Dickinson State Park, Blowing Rocks Preserve, Riverbend Park, DuBois Park, Busch Wildlife Sanctuary, Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge, and Cypress Creek Natural Area. No matter where you are near Tequesta, you will find wildlife to experience.

Jupiter is also home to a bustling nightlife and restaurant scene. Here you will find restaurants that are sure to satisfy all pallets and desires. The tourism industry in the area is thriving so new restaurants are popping up all of the time.
