History

Mangonia Park is located in Palm Beach County, Florida just miles north of West Palm Beach. Palm Beach County’s history is a rich one that dates back several thousand years prior to the establishments of the resort beach communities it is known for today.

For thousands of years native tribes lived and thrived along the Florida coast. Then in 1513, a Spanish expedition led by Juan Ponce de Leon arrived along the coast. The natives’ lives were forever altered by that moment in history. Over the next hundred years nearly all of the natives were either displaced or killed by warfare or disease. The Spanish claimed dominion over Florida for a few hundred years following their arrival.

Florida eventually achieved statehood in 1845. Over the next hundred years the area of West Palm Beach went through several boom and bust moments. The first real downturn was during the Great Depression of 1929. Luckily for the region the downturn didn’t last long. The U.S. government pumped lots of money into the region during World War II for coastal defense. It was at this time that the area took off.

It was also during this time that many of the smaller communities began to incorporate in order to avoid being absorbed by the quickly expanding city of West Palm Beach. This was the story of Mangonia Park. Local residents who wanted to retain their autonomy from the neighboring city established the community in 1947. They named the town after the mango groves in the region.

Today

The population of Mangonia Park today is about 1,300 people. It has become a commercial and industrial center in the area.

Things to do

The community is located in one of the richest areas of South Florida, as far as attractions and things to do goes. Residents typically have to look outside of the general community for things to do, but because of its proximity to West Palm Beach it isn’t a problem.

One of the top attractions in the region is golfing. The area is home to hundreds of courses. Golfers of all skills will find a course that suits them. They vary in price per round as well. The region is so rich in golf, that it has become one of the country’s top golf locations.

The other thing the area is well known for are the beaches along the coast. The Gulf Stream passes by and brings warm water and perfect weather with it. Some of the region’s top beaches are located in the area. Beachgoers have lots to choose from when deciding what to do. Some of the most popular activities include beach sports, jet skiing, parasailing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, and drift diving.

West Palm Beach is home to restaurants, nightlife, shopping, and various attractions as well. Some of the more popular places in the area include the Palm Beach Zoo and Conservation Society, the McCarthy Wildlife Sanctuary, Manatee Lagoon, several art museums, and various other places, which offer their own unique experiences. The region around Mangonia Park is a perfect place to find things to do for the entire family.
