More information about Haverhill, FL

History

Haverhill is located in Palm Beach County, Florida. It was incorporated in 1950 after about 50 families got together in 1949 and decided to organize the community. They named it after the community in Massachusetts where many of the original settlers came from.

The history of the area dates back to long before 1950. For thousands of years, native tribes called the region home. They lived off of the abundance of the region and the coast. Everything changed for them in 1513 when Juan Ponce de Leon landed in Florida with his Spanish crew. The displacement of the natives began almost immediately after. Over the next several hundred years, nearly all of the native tribes were either killed by warfare or disease or were displaced from their lands.

This eventually made way for Florida to become a colony and then eventually a state. The region took on its current form during World War II. The U.S. government pumped lots of money into the region during this time because of its location on the coast. The region was used as the base of operations for coastal defenses in Southern Florida. More recently, the area has become known as a tourist destination.

Today

Haverhill is a small community located on the outskirts of West Palm Beach. The population is roughly 1,500 people today. Just to the west of the community is Palm Beach International Airport.

Things to do

The community itself is primarily residential with the exception of Haverhill Park, which is a popular spot for local residents to enjoy the outdoors. Residents and visitors have to look outside of the community itself for things to do. Luckily, the surrounding region is rich with activities and places to see.

Southeastern Florida is most well known for its amazing beaches. The community is just a short drive away from some of West Palm Beach’s most popular beach spots. Beach goers have many activities to choose from when visiting. Some of the more popular activities include parasailing, boating, fishing, jet skiing, swimming, snorkeling, beach sports, sunbathing, and the regional pastime of drift diving. The Gulf Stream passes by the coast bringing warm water and perfect weather. It also provides a unique opportunity to dive and then float the current watching for wildlife.

Palm Beach County is also known for its golf. There are hundreds of golf courses in the surrounding region. These courses vary in ability and price per round. Golfers of all skills and course preferences will find a course in the region they like. The three closest to Haverhill are Emerald Dunes Club, Bear Lakes Country Club, and Banyon Cay Resort and Golf.
