Golden Lakes, Florida is located in Palm Beach County. It’s history dates back several thousands of years prior to European exploration and settlement of the
peninsula. Juan Ponce de Leon was the first European to set foot in Palm Beach County in 1513. With him came a Spanish exploration of the peninsula and the
eventual displacement of the native tribes that had lived there for centuries. Over the next several hundred years, Florida and Palm Beach County would change hands
between European countries several times, eventually obtaining statehood in 1845. Throughout much of the 17th , 18th , and 19th centuries Florida was a safe haven for
runaway slaves from the Southern states.

Today the population of Golden Lakes is around 7,000 people. It is a small community that benefits from its proximity to the surrounding cities. The city is
adjacent to West Palm Beach, which is one of the country’s top tourist spots for its amazing beaches and warm weather. Golden Lakes is also apart of the larger Miami
metropolitan area. Therefore, its size does not affect the residents’ job opportunities and the amount of things that there are to do.

Things to do

Golden Lakes’ proximity to the coast and West Palm Beach mean that any list of things to do has to include beaches. The Gulf Stream warms the waters off the coast
and the beaches are in swing nearly year round. The beaches of West Palm Beach are only a short ride away. There you will find cozy beaches and busy beaches and
all beaches in between. Once on the beaches you will find numerous activities including boating, snorkeling, parasailing, and many other water activities. One of
the more famous activities to do on the water is drift diving. Divers head out and float the Gulf Stream current watching for marine life to pass by.

After beaches, Palm Beach County is most well known for its golfing. There are several top rated golf courses located within driving distance of the community.
There are over 160 courses to choose from and the skill and price level vary enough that any age and skill of golfer will find multiple courses that suit their desires.
There are several things to do for families as well. The West Palm Beach area is home to several wildlife sanctuaries. The most popular in the area is the Lion
Country Safari. This drive through safari allows you to get up close and personal with animals in your own car. Other sanctuaries include the McCarthy Wildlife
Sanctuary, the Loggerhead Marinelife Sanctuary, the Palm Beach Zoo, and the South Florida Science Center and Aquarium. All of which offer a family friendly and
educational experience. In addition to wildlife sanctuaries, the Rapids Water Park is also located in the area of Golden Lakes. This family water park is home to thrill
rides and kids rides and is sure to please the whole family.
