About Cypress Lakes, Florida
History
Cypress Lakes is located in Palm Beach County, Florida. Although Cypress Lakes’ history is relatively modern, the history of the region dates back to long before retirement communities, country clubs, and tourist destinations populated it. For centuries, native tribes called the region home. They lived off of the abundance of the region and the coast. Their time along the coast was forever changed in 1513 when Juan Ponce de Leon landed in Florida with his Spanish crew. He and his Spanish conquistadors quickly laid claim to the region and began displacing the native populations. Over the next several hundred years, nearly all of the native tribes were either killed by disease or warfare and nearly all of the survivors were eventually displaced from their lands.
This eventually made way for Florida to become a colony and then eventually a state. The current form of the region began to take shape during World War II. Prior to the 1940’s the region was experiencing a significant downturn as the Great Depression gripped America. Once the outbreak of war happened, the U.S. government began pumping lots of money into the region because of its location on the coast. The region was used as the base of operations for coastal defenses in Southern Florida. More recently, the area has become known as a tourist destination.
Today
Today the population of Cypress Lakes is around 1,500. Residents have access to all of Palm Beach County for working, shopping, restaurants, nightlife, and entertainment.
Things to do
Palm Beach County is known for two things primarily, beaches and golfing and this community has access to it all. The coast is only a few short miles away. This makes some of the country’s most visited beaches easily accessible. The Gulf Stream passes right by the coast bringing perfect weather and warm water. Beachgoers in the region love to swim, boat, snorkel, suntan, play beach sports, Jet Ski, parasail, and drift drive. Drift diving is a local pastime of floating on the current while checking out wildlife. The community is also located around over a hundred golf courses and country clubs. There is even a local country club within the community, The Cypress Lakes Golf Course. There are golf courses in the area to fit all skill levels and budgets. This region of Florida has become known as one of the country’s biggest
golf destination locations and for good reason.
