No silly! This is not about Palm Springs, California but about Palm Springs, Florida. This Florida village was indeed named after that California city. Located 65 miles north of Miami, next door to Lake Worth and only seven miles south of West Palm Beach, this small city is found in the popular Palm Beach County.

History

The establishment charter was approved by the state legislature on July 4th of 1957 when the bill was put in front of the session by State Representative Ralph Blank Jr. Today it is home to almost 25,000 residents. Although he was not asked about any qualifying assets at the time the bill was passed, if Blank had been asked some facts at that time Palm Springs consisted of 700 acres of pasture, a modern dairy barn, many dairy cows and a human population of zero. In less than one year, in August of 1958, over 800 modern homes had been constructed with all the supporting infrastructure! Palm Springs was the home to one of the finest Village Halls in all of Florida in 1960 and one of the very first to be air conditioned. By 1997 the city had reached the original projections of 10,000 residents on the original 700 acres. Around two thirds of the citizens lived in single family homes with the balance in a mix of condominiums, town homes and apartments. In 1998 boundaries were expanded to allow for future expansion. Also up until this time the community was primarily residential. Plans now included more commercial growth and the necessary infrastructure to support various types of businesses. The city council was able to add additional municipal buildings and a beautiful water park.

The long range plans for the village are to continue with a sterling quality of life and a high level of municipal services. The intangibles for the residents and visitors of Palm Springs is the fact that they sit right in the middle of Palm Beach County and only three miles from the beaches on the Atlantic Ocean. Within 15 miles, one cup of coffee or one soda, you can find enough attractions, activities and various venues to entertain the family for days. Museums of all varieties. Indoor and outdoor amusement centers. All sorts of art galleries and different theaters. Live music in clubs and bars. Brewery tours. Restaurants of all ethnic offerings to experiment with your palette. Shopping, shopping and more shopping. Then we can focus on the outdoors, starting with the beaches. You can paddleboard, kayak or surfboard in the Atlantic. Snorkeling and scuba-diving are terrific options. Beaches reaching to your left and right as far as you can see. Boating activities, either in the ocean or on the many inland waterways, lagoons and rivers. Fishing, ocean or river. Parks offering hiking and biking. How about fantastic golf courses? There is an abundance of wildlife that is available to watch and follow in different settings. Each Palm Beach community has festivals so you will never get bored. This Palm Springs holds its own with the other one across the country!
